Salesmanship

Salesmanship is a dirty word in many “rational” circles.  “The data should speak for themselves!” demands the quant.  But consider the wisdom of Gene Woolsey who said that “a person would rather live with a problem he can’t solve than accept a solution he cannot understand.”  If you ignore style, if you ignore presentation, if you fail to connect with your audience/client/customer you will fail to make a difference.  The fact is data do not speak for themselves, if they did Statisticians would be irrelevant.
